ColdFusion Migration and Modernization

We've Been Building and Running ColdFusion Applications for Over 25 Years.
The apps we see are usually old, still making money, and understood by nobody currently on staff. That's fixable. Some of our biggest AI projects started exactly there.
You're at a Crossroads
- The developer who built it left years ago.
- Your Adobe license renewal is on the calendar and you're wondering what you're paying for.
- The server runs a ColdFusion version Adobe no longer patches.
- A security scan or PCI audit flagged the stack.
- You want AI working on your data, and the data lives inside a CFML app.
We'll tell you which path fits once we've read the code. Sometimes the right answer is to upgrade and leave it alone.
Three Ways Forward
How We Modernize
First, we read all of it.
AI reads the whole codebase and maps every template, CFC, query, and scheduled task. Then it writes the documentation nobody wrote the first time.
An engineer who's been writing CFML for two decades checks that output and fills the gaps.
You get a map of your own system before anyone changes a line.
Then we move one piece at a time.
We keep the ColdFusion app running and move one module at a time. We ship each piece, test, and switch over before the next one starts.
Your people keep working the whole way through.
The database moves first and moves carefully because it usually holds more value than the code hitting it.
What are results?
A consumer products company
They moved their Adobe ColdFusion application to us from another ColdFusion host.
Today we're building their AI data warehouse. Executives can ask a business question in plain English and get an answer from reconciled, governed financial data...with every answer logged.
By the time the AI question came up, we already knew their data, their systems, and the people who run them.
A global manufacturer
They started the same way as the consumer prducts company, with a ColdFusion app that needed a home.
We worked with their solo ColdFusion developer (SPOF!) to get their source code in a repository. Then we could review it and migrate the system to a new AWS environment.
Now we're remediating to secure SOC 2 certification.
Old code tends to sit on top of the most useful data in the company. That's why we take it seriously.
ColdFusion Migration Questions
Is ColdFusion dead?
Not entirely. Adobe shipped ColdFusion 2025, and Lucee is under active open-source development. The bigger risk is the shrinking pool of developers who know CFML, which is how so many apps end up with nobody to maintain them.
Should we move to Lucee?
Probably, if license cost is the main pain and your code doesn't depend on Adobe-only features. The Health Check tells you exactly which features you're using.
Can you take over an app someone else built?
Yes. That describes most of what we see.
Do you work alongside our developers?
Yes. We can lead the work, or slot in next to your team and handle the CFML pieces they'd rather not touch.
Can AI just rewrite the app for us?
AI cuts the time it takes to read and document a legacy app. Converting it still takes an engineer who knows where CFML hides its surprises: implicit scopes, Application.cfc behavior, and queries built from strings.
Do you host ColdFusion?
Yes. We host ColdFusion and Lucee on AWS for clients who need it. See ColdFusion & Lucee Hosting.
